Warts and Molluscum Contagiosum
Warts and Molluscum are very common contagious conditions. They are caused by viruses, such as the Human Papilloma Virus and Pox viruses. These viruses infect skin cells and cause an overgrowth of the skin. The condition typically infects children but can also appear in adults. Warts cause cauliflower-like growths typically on the hands and feet, but can infect any part of the body and spread to new locations. Molluscum are skin coloured small bumps that can appear anywhere on the skin and spread between adjacent skin areas such as the two parts of the back of the knee. Both conditions will subside eventually, once the immune system recognises the viruses, but this may take several years.
The treatment of warts and Molluscum is based on chemicals and physical modalities that destruct the lesion. There are multiple treatments that damage the warts and Molluscum. Dr. Sagi will tailor the treatment according to the age of the patient and the severity of the condition.
